As a young child, my son Don had been diagnosed with Hirschprung’s Disease, a gastrointestinal disorder which called for several bowel blockage surgeries and colostomies before his 9th birthday. He had poor sleep cycles, complained of fatigue, his back ached constantly, and at age 14, he had not grown in height or weight in 3 years.
I had taken Don to a growth specialist at the Children’s Hospital of Western Ontario. This specialist had put Don on a mild dose of growth hormone. Still, at age 14, Don weighed 70 pounds, stood just over 5 feet, and wore a size 4-5 shoe. As a soccer and hockey enthusiast, Don played on a number of different sports, teams. However, his weak immune system caused him to drop off the teams early, often half way through the season. Don would get so sick, there were weeks on end when he would stay home from school.
My father-in-law suggested we bring Don to Hardick Chiropractic Centre to see if chiropractic care could either make him feel better with his back aches, or help him grow. Dr. Hardick took an X-ray of Don’s spine, which showed a severe curvature in his lower back. Dr. Hardick explained that the nerves from this part of Don’s spine regulate his gastrointestinal organs, and that since Don was already lacking normal nerve activity in his large intestine, we should do everything possible to bring those organs, and Don’s health, to their maximum potential.
It has been nearly 1 year since Don started getting adjusted. He has improved 95%! He has gained 15 pounds, grown 3 inches, and he has gone up 3 shoe sizes. His back hardly ever aches, and we are thrilled that Don can keep up with other kids in sports now. Even our family doctor is amazed, and agrees that without chiropractic care, we wouldn’t have seen these changes.
Don’s sister, 3-year-old baby brother, mother and father all get routine chiropractic care, as do several cousins, extended family, and my in-laws . . . and we all feel better for it.
