Five years ago, my son Jason was diagnosed with ADHD. He was in grade 1 and the teachers, who said they couldn’t handle him, suggested Ritalin. I was against putting him on Ritalin right from the start. Unfortunately, the medical model won out – and Jason ended up on Ritalin at the age of 6. I knew that it gave him stomach cramps and destroyed his appetite, and as time went on I learned of the other dangers of him being on a mind-altering medication.

My family started seeing Dr. Hardick earlier this year. Dr. Hardick said he was most concerned about Jason, based on the subluxations in his neck, and because he had been on serious medication for 5 years. I did some reading in the Hardicks’ office, and learned that Ritalin is in the same class of drugs as cocaine and heroine!

Dr. B.J. strongly felt that nerve pressure in Jason’s neck could be the source of his attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity. We hoped that with chiropractic adjustments his behaviour would improve.

Dr. B.J. urged me to talk to Jason’s medical doctor about my desire to get him off medication – but the medical doctor insisted that Jason needed it another year. Based on what? Nothing! The teachers just wanted him to “get through grade 6” before coming off the drug. That would have him on heavy drugs for 6 years, until the age of 12.

With every adjustment Jason improved. The Hardicks reassured me that Jason was MY child and that his health was in MY hands. They encouraged me to take the action I wanted to take. Jason is now completely off Ritalin. He has not experienced withdrawal side-effects. In fact, he is happier and more cooperative than ever. You wouldn’t believe it. He used to get together with other boys his age, get wound up, and end up fighting all the time. Now, he gets together with the same kids, and it is like they are brothers. The difference is night and day.

We attribute this to the improvements in his health and in his nerve supply through chiropractic adjustments. Jason feels much better, his appetite is back, and he’s a lot happier. Best of all, he’s now less likely to be addicted to other drugs (from the drugstore, or off the street) as his life goes on … and with his spine so much healthier we know he won’t go down the medical highway as so many other children will.
