SEE What Chiropractic Did For Me! “My vision improved”

by Sheila Jackson

For several years I suffered with daily headaches. At least twice per month, usually during stressful situations, my headaches were so severe that I had sharp pains behind and around my right eye. The right side of my neck was painful, as were my shoulder muscles, and in between my shoulder blades. In addition to these problems, I was also plagued by fatigue, and occasional radiating pain down my right leg. As a member of a singing quartet and also a trio, my symptoms were making it very difficult for me to pursue my favourite hobbies.

A friend of mine who had been diagnosed with fibromylagia, and had found relief through chiropractic care, suggested that I consult her chiropractor. I met with Dr. Clifford Hardick, whose X-rays of my spine identified severe subluxations in my lower back, and an unusual curvature in my neck. Dr. Hardick explained to me that while a healthy neck has a forward curvature, mine was reversed. This condition contributed to my headaches, shoulder pain, and neck pain. I could see from my X-rays that my spinal problems could not be corrected overnight.

Two weeks after beginning chiropractic care, my headaches started to improve. I felt much better. However, one month into care, I began to notice that the vision in my left eye was becoming blurry. As a matter of fact, my vision was blurriest immediately following an adjustment. This problem continued for a number of weeks. After a chiropractic adjustment, I would return to work and have dizzy spells because of the blurred vision. In spite of the unusual circumstances, and in spite of others’ suggestions that chiropractic care was possibly causing a new problem for me, Dr. Hardick knew well that my subluxations were being reduced, so he continued to adjust me.

On Dr. Hardick’s recommendation, I visited an optometrist, who found that I had a dilated pupil in my left eye. At the time, vascular disorders, diabetes, and multiple sclerosis were all explained to me as possible causes. Another specialist suggested that the enlarged pupil was harmless, and that it may have been caused by a virus. And yet a different specialist suggested that my blurred vision was being caused by an Adie’s eye, which is an eye that reacts to light very sluggishly.

After six months of care, my headaches were sparse, and the occasional symptom was always alleviated following an adjustment. At this time, Dr. Hardick’s new X-ray of my neck showed a normal, healthy, forward curve in my neck. This major goal of my chiropractic care had been achieved.

However, my vision was still blurry. It was actually getting blurrier. Dr. Hardick insisted that I see an optometrist to have my vision measured. I went in to the optometrist’s office wearing the glasses I had been wearing prior to my first appointment with Dr. Hardick. The prescription for these eyeglasses was -8.00 for nearsightedness. I left the optometrist’s office with a new prescription, -4.00 ... Yes, my vision had improved! It was my over-powered lenses that were blurring my vision. After months of appointments with optometrists, neurologists, and ophthalmologists, I had my answer.

Improved eyesight was the last thing I expected to receive as a bi-product of chiropractic care. With regular chiropractic adjustments, I have the health and energy to work full-time, sing almost every weekend, and enjoy my everyday activities.

My optometrist now asks me to get adjusted before I have my vision tested. I hope you will, too.
