I had been experiencing neck and shoulder pain after years hunched over a computer related to my line of work. The last two to three years I developed TMJ, a facial muscle spasm in my right jaw along with neck pain due to tension. Suffering with sinus headaches and indigestion most of my adult life, I treated the pain with ibuprofen, antacids and massage therapy for muscle tension.
Concerned with maintaining a healthy lifestyle, I attended a workshop given by Dr. B.J. Hardick called "How to Build a Titanium Immune System." This workshop was sponsored by the Athletic Club at their northern location. The workshop introduced me to chiropractic methods of assisting the body's own immune system to fight disease. My family physician advised against chiropractic care, but nevertheless, I signed up for an assessment.
My first x-ray showed subluxation in the neck and spine. Instead of having a natural curve, my neck was straight. Some vertebrae in my back were displaced impinging the nerves leading to vital organs. A care plane was formulated by the attending chiropractor and, against my doctor's advice, I began a series of adjustments to my neck and spine starting with three times a week along with a series of seminars on nutrition, exercise, stress and time management.
Six months after receiving my first adjustment, a new x-ray denoted improvement. The natural curve was returning in my neck. Being in tune with my body, I am noticing an overall sense of well-being.
I am learning that chiropractic care is not an overnight cure, but a lifetime commitment. I still have the occasional sinus attack mainly due to my sensitivity to chemicals and am experiencing neck tension because of some stress in my life. My indigestion is still an issue, but now I have it all under control. Will good nutrition, regular exercise and chiropractic adjustments, I am helping to maintain a healthy immune system.
